My school is very diverse with many students from different backgrounds and academic levels. While some of my students come from homes where school achievement is pushed, many of my students come from low-income homes where reading and school are low on the priority list. However, once students cross the building doors in the morning, all students are held to a high level of expectations for achievement. Students enter as equals and adopt the belief that they can succeed.
My students are problem-solvers, world-changers, and hard-workers with hearts for making the future better.
My Project
My students need relevant, important, and engaging books to open up a dialogue about our ever-changing society. My students see the news and social media posts about what is going on, but they haven't been given the chance to really explore what is going on. Using these important titles for book clubs will give my students the chance to build their knowledge, explore different perspectives, and begin to understand how and why our society is changing.
My students want to be informed and involved in the world around them.
Book clubs will give my students the chance to build their voices and broaden their perspectives. Book clubs will also give my students the opportunity to connect with each other through meaningful conversations while exploring current issues.
