Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! They are truly dedicated to their learning, and they continually seek out answers to complex questions about who they are and who they can become. My students all happen to have learning disabilities, but it does not define them. The challenges we faced with remote learning are compounded by the lack of resources in a large district where funding never seems to meet the needs.

The students that I teach are motivated, dedicated, thoughtful, and deserving of so much!

Even though they struggle with the challenges of having a disability, they work hard and want to succeed. The more access they have to resources available through DonorsChoose, the more successful they will be.

My Project

We all have stories. We learn about the world, and ourselves, when we share those stories with others. Reading fiction helps us further develop empathy and compassion, and the students in this classroom deserve access to the world through a more robust and rich library full of stories that both mirror their own and expand their view of the world.

A rich and diverse classroom library is a window to the world.

This project will provide more options for students who may be only starting their independent reading journey and for students who are eager for more access to the world around them through books. The students that this project supports are amazing young people who also have learning disabilities that impact their reading. The feeling of opening boxes of new books meant just for them, sent by all of you because you believe in them, will be powerful!

Help us give our students access to the voices and stories of incredible authors so that they can be empowered in their own learning and literary growth!
