This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students are amazing second graders who are full of energy and curiosity. Sadly many of them lack knowledge about what heritage is, the importance of them feeling pride about where they come from, and that their name has meaning.
It would be my honor to help my students explore their roots so they can proudly share their heritage with others.
The Multicultural Puppets will create an imaginative play experience as well as boost communication skills, self-confidence, and social-emotional connections. They are also great for roleplaying and storytelling which will only get better throughout the school year. The people color art materials will help my students and our Kindergarten classroom buddies celebrate their African American, Hispanic, or other heritage while motivating them to feel pride and awaken their curiosity to research and learn about their roots.
The fabulous books that were selected will help them feel the connection to their own story and how they can also feel proud of their heritage. These books will teach diversity and inclusion. Students will learn about certain names and that will build inquiry and curiosity about their own name. Using these books as examples, students will write all about their own family's roots, heritage and culture. Then they will make a people person to represent them.
This will not only help my students, but it will also make an impact in the entire school. We will all learn, respect, and appreciate every culture represented at our school.
