My Students
My students enter the kindergarten classroom eager, anxious, and willing to learn. It is very important that each of them is met at his or her developmental level and is taught in a way that keeps them excited and engaged in learning.
The students in my kindergarten classroom are excited about learning and come to the classroom with a wide range of skills, expectations, expertise, and abilities.
These students are ready to become 21st Century learners by learning cooperation and content through the tools of tomorrow!
My Project
Ozobots are miniature robots that help students learn about coding through play! After reading a Donor's Choose project written by Mrs. Mundt, I know that these same little robots can inspire and excite my Kindergarteners!
Kindergarteners need to gain an understanding of their community, and in this lesson the students will create maps of their school and neighborhoods using the Ozobot's language; once done, they will have an Ozobot traverse their map!
Ozobot reads color combinations. Students will use markers and chart paper to create a path of their school or neighborhood. They can design the map so that at certain important locations, the Ozobot will do something flashy; for example, outside their apartment the Ozobot will spin, or next to their favorite park, the Ozobot will rapidly flash its lights. They will have to create their path so the Ozobot turns at the appropriate times and makes its way from one point to another. Can they direct their Ozobot to the library and back to the classroom? Can they make their Ozobot walk to school?
After this lesson, we will continue to use the Ozobots for enrichment on a regular basis. There are many other awesome applications!
