I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school in my district. My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and as a Title I school they receive 100% of their meals at no charge. My students are faced with several challenges every day both inside and outside of the classroom that sometimes effects their motivation to read. Despite their many trials, my students have committed to becoming better readers.
I educate a very diverse group of students that have with a wide range of disabilities including emotional, intellectual, social, and physical disabilities.
My Project
Every day my students read independently in my classroom. My students have a deep desire and will to read graphic novels, which are a wonderful tool to enhance their learning. I want to provide my students with access to a new genre that covers various subject matter so they can broaden their reading experiences. I am excited for the opportunity to add new graphic novels into our classroom library. I look forward to gaining a chance to continue closing achievement gaps that are apparent among my student population. My students will see immediate benefits with these new reading selections in our classroom.
