Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

My Project
I currently teach 9th-12 grade Spanish 1 in a low-income school and community. My students are bright, beautiful, and energetic. Most of my students do not grow up in traditional households, which can be challenging. Although they grow up in these circumstances, their adversities do not define them. They thrive. I have struggling readers, and I know that adding a fun component to Spanish such as karaoke and other supplies would help rid my students of the embarrassment of reading out loud their Spanish practice lesson.
Music is encouraging, it will relieve pressure, and students can learn at their own pace with karaoke.
The benefits of adding karaoke as a reading supplement are: Following along with the words and training the brain to say them aloud in time with the music, fosters language retention and production. Students must learn to both read and process the words thoroughly enough to speak them nearly simultaneously. This process can help rewire the brain to improve processing accuracy and speed.
Last, adding a karaoke supplement to my Spanish program will make reading and speaking more enjoyable, and will help build their confidence in reading Spanish out loud.
Moreover, having addditional technolgy, classroom and food supply can help my studetns to be more engage and have an unique experience in their Spanish classroom.
