Exploring Nature with Drones

My students need a drone carrying case and extra drone batteries to help them view wildlife without disturbing the wildlife.

My Students

My students come from low income backgrounds. They do not have the opportunity to experience very much technology outside of the classroom. I have made it a goal of mine to introduce as much technology as possible to them so they may have a well rounded education prior to entering the real world as young adults.

Our school is a community that serves many military families from the Little Rock Airforce base.

We try to tie in how engineers have a role to play in the military as well as civilian life. This gives my students the ability to see how engineering could help them later in life even they chose to follow in their parents footsteps.

My students love hands on activities and projects. About 90% of my class is project based learning. This creates enthusiasm in the classroom and allows students to learn through experiences and not just direct instruction.

My Project

We will be using the material to observe nature and explore science without actually having to disturb nature. We need the drone batteries to give us more flight time so we can stretch the amount of time in observation. We need the backpack to help safely transfer our drone to and from the area we are wanting to view. We will also use the drone controller mount to put a cell phone on for first person viewing of what we want to see.

Our goal is to view nature without interrupting it while also learning about the technology and how it works.

We hope to use the Go Pro mounts to give us alternate views to observe nature with.
