Our young preschool-kindergarten Montessori children are inherently connected to nature and fascinated by living things! Connection to nature and inspiring wonder are an integral part of the Montessori Philosophy and Method.
Our children’s excitement when they discover the world around them and learn from hands-on exploring is a natural wonder and fosters a love for learning.
When we are outside the discovery of worms, insects and birds are like diamonds. When the children come in from outside they are ready to focus, share their discoveries and continue learning.
My Project
We typically start our school days outside two times a week hiking and exploring. During our outdoor days the children climb trees, make shelters, build their own community, lift and roll logs, inspect insects, watch birds, keep a nature journal and find their way through trails in the woods. All of their outdoor discoveries are brought inside the classroom to continue their learning. Many children find treasures outside to add to our nature tray in the classroom. The children enjoy labeling parts of insects and other woodland animals, learning about parts of a tree, flower or leaf and identifying different leaf shapes and trees.
Because our children are learning from home during the pandemic, we want to provide some nature-related tools to enhance their outdoor explorations and improve their mental well being.
The items that we have selected will give all of the children the same tools to help guide their learning at home. We have heard of so many wonderful things this program has done! We can't wait to see our children learn and explore even more!
