My Project
We have been developing areas in our library collection over the last several years to create an inviting catalog of titles that interest our students to help them grow as readers. I have shifted this focus to two areas that are in desperate need of updating.
Our mythology section and our traditional and fractured folktale and fairytale sections are in great need!
I have students every week who request books from these areas in our library, and the books that I have to offer to them are not good enough for our students.
The few mythology books that we have are old, dingy, and musty. They do not invite curiosity or enthusiasm. These are books that have been on the shelves for decades, and we need to be able to offer newer and more relevant retellings of the mythology stories.
Our traditional tales collection also needs improvement. We need both the oral traditions of these stories as well as a robust collection of the new, fractured, and alternate versions of these stories. By having our students read, share, discuss, and reflect on multiple versions of these stories, they are more engaged with critical thinking skills.
