My music classroom utilizes a variety of activities to help promote the growth and musicianship of all students. For the past few years, I've been using children's picture books in my lessons. These books can relate to a music concept, a musician, or personal connections like growth mindset and believing in oneself.
Listening to books being read aloud is beneficial to even the older students in school.
These benefits include improving memory, increasing focus and attention, introducing new vocabulary, and even reducing stress and anxiety as the listener connects with the reader. From my experience so far, middle school students enjoy being read to.
