My Students
Our students are part of a small rural area. All the teachers and staff know all of the students and their families. The community is very supportive of the school system to include its academic and activities successes. We have a strong sense of excellence in our school. The students come to school eager to learn and grow through the educational opportunities offered them.
In my music classes the students are very inquisitive, and love the experience of playing all kinds of musical instruments.
Engaging them in music exploration / creation is much easier when they have various musical instruments they can play. It is hard to keep them engaged when there are just a few instruments for the class to work with at one time.
My Project
All of our students want to experience music through playing musical instruments. When we only have one or two piano keyboards for them to use, it is hard to keep them all engaged while they wait their turn to play. Having enough piano keyboards available will allow the students to stay engaged in the music lesson.
Using portable mini-piano keyboards that they can hold in their laps will provide the opportunity for the students to experience, create, and improvise their own music.
Piano keyboards are a great way for students to explore music, and develop creativity. Piano keyboards are also a great was to teach musical concepts such as "pitch" (highness and lowness of sound) and "dynamics" (loudness and softness of sound).
In addition, having some portable mini-piano keyboards that older students can take home with them will allow for enhanced performance preparation when we are doing distance learning.
