My Project
During choice time in our classroom, students have an opportunity to explore the dramatic play area. In this area, students can be creative and dress up in various costumes. The dramatic play area is a very popular place within our classroom. We currently only have a few costumes in our area, and the addition of this new set will expand our area tremendously. Dramatic play promotes language, social, and emotional development. With the addition of the community helpers' set of costumes, our students will be able to make real-world connections to our thematic social studies unit "Heroes and Helpers". When using this set of costumes students will be encouraged to think critically about the skills needed to work with peers to perform each job, and conflict resolution when unexpected situations occur during role play. The goal for this project is to provide my students with a set of dramatic play costumes that they can use to engage in imaginative play centered around people they see working in their neighborhoods daily.
