My Students
I am a first year Special Education teacher in Brooklyn, NY, with a class of six kindergarten/first grade students, who have all been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We have switched back and forth between remote, blended and fully in-person learning.
They are doing an incredible job adjusting to the rules (wearing a mask) and constant changes, especially considering this is their first or second year in school ever.
My students are incredibly creative. They love art, music and technology.
I want to provide them with access to a wide variety so they can explore and grow their interests.
My Project
Our class is attending school five days in person in NYC. This group of students has hardly experienced what school should be like considering they range from 4-6 years old. I'd like to supply our class with classic books, sensory activities and tactile objects to help them learn.
Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder especially need sensory activities and manipulatives to learn efficiently.
I'm excited for them to explore new textures and use their creativity while learning shapes, colors and numbers. Each day we will have a book exploration time to check out some of the classics.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
