Exploring Identity & Race: Novel Study of Nella Larsen's 'Passing
Help me give my students access to the novel "Passing", written by Nella Larsen for a novel study to enhance their understanding of themes that include identity, race, and societal expectations.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm excited to share this project aimed at giving my students access to Nella Larsen's novel "Passing." This book dives into important themes like race, identity, and what society expects of us. By reading it, my students will have the chance to explore these complex topics that really resonate with their lives and the world today.
The items I'm requesting—copies of the book along with some sticky notes—will make a big difference in my students' learning.
These resources will help them not just enjoy reading but also improve their understanding of the text. With the guides, we can have meaningful conversations and connect the story to current issues they encounter.
My goals for this project are pretty straightforward: I want to spark a love for reading and encourage open discussions about identity and race. I’m aiming to create a space where my students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and diving into tough topics together. This experience will help them build empathy and become more aware of social issues.
What makes my students truly special is their diversity and the unique perspectives each of them brings to the classroom. They are curious and eager to learn, and this project will help them grow as individuals while also building a strong sense of community. Together, we can explore the powerful themes in Larsen's story and learn from one another along the way.
