This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to be challenged and are very inquisitive about the world around them. They are thirsty for knowledge and always want to know more! This is the first year that my students will be taking a new assessment for third grade instead of the previous Reading and Math Tests.

At this time I have 17 students in my self contained gifted classroom.

I have 9 boys and 8 girls. My students are between 8 and 9 years old and are in the third grade. They each have different learning styles. Some like to learn visually while others like to learn orally. But they all love to learn through hands-on activities such as using the small white boards, math manipulatives, and highlighters. They enjoy working in pairs and in groups in the classroom. Most of the students in my school are on free or reduced lunch. This is a very challenging year since they will be exposed to a completely new standardized test. In first and second grade, my students had the SAT test where they were asked to bubble their answers. However, this year they will not only have multiple choice questions but also fill in the blank and short and extended responses. I need to expose my students to material in different ways to prepare them to be successful not only in third grade but in life!

My Project

We are now in the world of technology as the age of technology here to stay! I need to prepare my students to be well rounded citizens of tomorrow. At this time, there are many apps available to students to learn with. In addition to whole group instruction, my students would learn in pairs and groups by using the Surface 2 and Mini iPad. These tools would be utilized for the students to learn and practice both math and reading skills. There are many components that my students will be tested on in the spring and through the use of these materials my students will be actively engaged in learning.

I always tell my students to "Change the World", with these materials you will be changing their world!

My students will know that Donors Choose played a vital role in improving their education. My students' lives will improve immensely by practicing and reinforcing the skills learned in class. They will be able to satisfy that thirst for knowledge by using the Surface and mini iPad in their day to day learning. Technology will be even more infused in their daily learning!
