Exploring Gravity, Stability and Balance through Block Play

Help me give my students a variety of building and constructing materials to use in our STEAM room to spark their interest in physical science.

My Project

The preschool children at our center enjoy building with blocks. Our center has expanded an area in our STEAM room to be dedicated to block building and would love to have some new and interesting building materials available for them. By donating to this project, you will be providing opportunities for our children to gain and strengthen their skills in science, math, fine motor and support their social interactions with peers and adults.

When young children build with blocks, they begin to explore the concepts of physical science.

Whether they are using large blocks to build tall towers or enclosures they can fit themselves into, or smaller building bricks that they can use to create representations of their imaginations, the children will be developing their understanding of balance, gravity, and stability. Through their prior knowledge of building, trial and error and observation skills, the children will develop an understanding of how to build strong structures. Having a variety of different types of blocks will provide the children the challenge of creating a wide array of structures that reflect their interests and imagination.
