My students are explorers, dreamers, thinkers, and collaborators. They are inquisitive, talented, hopeful, and hard-working. And they come to school every day excited to learn through exploration of math and science! My kids value their education and they value each other... Just as I value them.
My students are our future- they are going to be world leaders, teachers, scientists, engineers, police officers, CEOs, and so much more.
My kids have a focus on growth mindset and know what it means to fail- and to always get back up. My hope is to help each of my students succeed by giving them exactly what they need. Some of my students need specific interventions, some need enrichment, but all need the tools to become successful... Not just in 4th grade but for the rest of their lives.
My Project
The majority of my students do not earn any type of allowance at home and do not have experience with finances due to low-income barriers. I hope to give them a great base of financial literacy understanding by having them explore money management through centers! Children learn best through playing, so I am hoping to make finances fun.
My hope is that my students leave my 4th grade class knowledgeable, educated, and prepared for the financial world that they will shortly be joining.
During our math block, we have small group/centers, this is the time that I will utilize the Magnetic Jumbo Money and the Quick Pick Money cards to help those students that need some intervention or additional help understanding money management and how it affects their daily lives. My students will use the Math Game Libraries, including Money, Multiplication, Division, and Place Value in order to expand their basic knowledge of money and how it is used. Some of my other students need enrichment, and they will benefit from using the games "ATM Action!" and "The Math Star" because they will be using the money management concepts taught to them to collaborate with their teammates to win during centers.
My students would love to have the Power Pen set to be able to work independently or in a group to self-check their answers on Money and other important math concepts needed for money management. By the end of the school year, my students will understand what financial literacy is and how to save, budget, and spend wisely- all because of these math center resources. We would also love some storage solutions for our new math center materials!
