My Project

At our elementary school, we lead with the heart. We are known as the "Rockets", and our students are aspiring leaders. By implementing The Leader in Me: 7 Habits curriculum, students will explore the lives of historical Floridian figures who promoted peaceful change in their communities. Through these real-life examples, students will reflect on their potential as leaders, learning how to foster respect, inclusivity, and responsibility within the classroom and beyond. The ultimate goal is to build a respectful and inclusive classroom culture through leadership-centered learning that is age-appropriate and academically rigorous.

Our project is entitled "Leading with Heart: Exploring Fairness, Justice, and Leadership through the 7 Habits, and the primary goals of this project are to promote an understanding of fairness, equity, and justice through literature and discussion.

To teach and apply the Leader in Me Habits: Habit 1: Be Proactive, Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, and Habit 6: Synergize. The project will introduce students to historical figures in Florida who exemplified integrity, courage, and leadership in promoting community change. Lastly, the curriculum will encourage students to identify personal leadership traits they can use to create a kind, respectful, and inclusive classroom.

The students will engage in collaborative discussions and create tangible products such as Leadership Reflections, where students will write about how they can be fair and inclusive leaders in our school, Class Synergy Circles involve group collaboration using Habit 5. They will emphasize listening to and respecting diverse opinions, and finally, students will engage in Service Projects initiatives such as healing others, including classmates, and showing empathy.

Our project, Leading with Heart, is an impactful, character-building initiative designed to help students understand the power of proactive, respectful leadership and become thoughtful, kind, and effective change agents in their communities.
