This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With these amazing tools, students will be able to explore ecosystems in different ways. I hope to help give my students the tools to better understand the ecosystem in their community and show them possible job opportunities with the skills and knowledge they have acquired in AP Environmental Science. The biome board games will give them a fun way to engage with food webs and how different ecosystems and reefs function.

In my AP Environmental Science Courses, students make the best connections to hands-on experiences, which these labs will provide them with amazing opportunities to grow and better support their community in the future.

They often look for a connection to the world and their community. Being in an Agricultural community, the soil demo kit will show how our groundwater is recharged and help to see how soil affects water on our crops. This ties in with the soil properties lab, where they analyze which soils will help them grow different crops more successfully. Once they determine the properties, they are going to plant different crops and measure their growth over time. Many students will go on to use these skills as project managers, biologists, and in viticulture.

Lastly, the wet scrubber lab is a way to look at what happens when we burn or process the crops or materials. Students will see what is emitted and how to capture the pollutants and produce clean air. All of these tools help to reinforce their understanding of how ecosystems work, provide them with up-close looks at soil, agriculture, and air quality.
