This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Here at BHS we have an indoor and outdoor garden. We are expanding our garden layout to be able to offer fruits and veggies to our students. I am so incredibly proud of the progress we have made. Our garden club is growing immensely.
Some future ideas we have:
-creating an infused water for our school
-feeding the poor
-making pasta sauce and salads to take home
-garden seating area
The best part of having a garden is the numerous benefits that contribute to the holistic development of students. Including the bonds/relationship we create during that time.
Above all, gardening has provided my students with the tools to manage their emotions and improve their learning potential. I have learned so much about my students through our gardening program.
Gardening at BHS NEVER STOPS! We garden throughout the whole year! Our school has opened the doors for others in the Newark NJ area to join. We have had farmers come to educate us and work with us. We have had corporate companies come to support our garden. We even have returning college students who have unfinished business.
