Exploring Antibiotic Resistance in Various Bacterial Species
Help me give my students the opportunity to explore antibiotic resistance in bacteria. I am also requesting sheep hearts for my 9th graders to dissect for exploration of the cardiovascular system.

My Project
I am requesting funding for two projects in my classes.
Medical Interventions enables students to play the role of infectious disease experts.
My scholars are now in their third year of Biomedical Science, and are learning college-level concepts in biotechnology. They are inquisitive, intelligent, and inspired to learn about the varying facets of microbiology, cancer, and genetics.
One problem my 11th graders will be exploring this semester is the appearance of Antibiotic Resistant bacteria. This project will be reinforcing the structure of bacteria and how antibiotics can destroy bacteria, and which antibiotics are effective against which species of bacteria. This will develop laboratory skills of handling bacterial specimens and implementing scientific inquiry skills.
Another project will be for my incoming 9th grade Principles of Biomedical Science students, who will be investigating a crime scene. One of the possible causes of death for this fictional subject is exploring the anatomy of the heart. By dissecting sheep hearts and comparing various structural heart diseases in different sheep hearts, they can rule out whether the victim died of cardiovascular related reasons.
In addition, I would like to start out the year with fresh lab supplies and fresh school supplies.
