My students need two frog dissection kits to fully explore the animal anatomy and body systems.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the excitement the first time you dissected an animal in your biology class? My students are dying to see the wonders of animal anatomy first hand. Please help my students cultivate and develop their passion in science!
My students are mostly underprivileged seventh graders in San Fernando Valley in southern California.
Our school is a charter school, and all students aspire to attend colleges in the future. Many of my students grew up lacking resources and exposure to the fields of medicine, engineering, technology, and different sciences. I hope by introducing the most relevant parts of life science to them, I can inspire more students to enter related career paths in the future. While some of my students already aspire to become doctors or veterinarians, I hope to provide a more engaging experience to all of my students in order to uncover potential interests.
While many of my students come from low-income communities, their passion for learning and life science amazes me every single day. As a result, I truly wish to open their minds to the wondrous and exciting possibilities of science.
My Project
With two sets of frog dissection kits, I will be able to provide each group of four students with one frog. The kit not only comes with a frog but also tools and a dish for dissecting. This dissecting lab will come at the end of the body systems unit and combine the different topics covered in the unit. The students will be able to solidify their knowledge by observing how a species so different from ours also possesses the essential organs that function together to sustain life.
This project will allow my students to visualize what they learned previously on paper. In addition, it will provide students with more visual learning styles another chance to connect with the material. Overall, this dissection activity will make the course materials so much more relevant to their daily lives. The positive impact of this activity on my students' interests in science is priceless.
This project is so important to my students because it might be one of the very few dissections that they will encounter.
With the severe budget reduction problems in Los Angeles, you are most likely the only chance for these youths to obtain this rare experience. I truly hope for my students to have the same opportunities to develop their interests despite their disadvantaged backgrounds. This project will most likely invigorate my students' passion in biology and medicine!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
