Exploring America's Pastime

My students need softball gloves in order to begin a softball unit.

My Students

Working in a school that is not funded by the county is difficult. The amount of money we get per student is significantly lower than what surrounding schools receive. We are a Title I, Charter school located in Myrtle Beach, S.C.. The lack of funding effects special areas significantly. I depend on donations and fundraising for equipment.

My students love to explore many different sports and cooperative activities to find their own interests.

The more diverse I make physical activity, the more students I can reach.

My Project

Softball is one of the most popular sports in America. It gives young girls the opportunity to compete. It also can become a lifetime fitness option as an adult in a recreational setting. This project will equip my students with the basic equipment needed to begin a softball program for our Physical Education program. We will begin with basic throwing, catching and fielding skills, for which the softball gloves will be beneficial. Hopefully, the interest will also begin a school team.

Sports can help with goal setting, time management skills, teamwork and confidence.

I want my female students to have this opportunity to grow in all of those areas.
