We learn best when we learn from each other. My students love becoming "experts" in a given topic and then sharing their knowledge with their friends. We learn and discover together in a large elementary school in Georgia. Many of these students are first-generation Americans, navigating our multicultural world.
Giving students choice in their learning gives them ownership over their future!
Giving them the tools to explore and discover is the spark that fuels their love of knowledge. Together, we practice the art of asking important questions, digging deep for answers, and showing our new thinking in ways that will engage each other.
My Project
My students need an iPad Mini with accessories, to help them do independent research in the Discovery Station. I want my first graders to become independent researchers and explorers. This year I will be making a Discovery Station, where students can use the iPad to access educational research websites in order to complete open ended projects on topics of their choice.

The donations for this project will empower my first graders to become active explorers of the world around them. We will utilize the Discovery Station daily during science, social studies, literacy centers and writing. Research on the iPad will also work towards the goal of reading comprehension. I look forward to seeing what my little explorers will discover this year!
