My Students

My seventh grade squirrels never stop moving! This is why engaging activities are so important to keep students interested and excited about developing their skills.

In today's world, tangible, interactive experiences are invaluable to the classroom.

This is why having growing, living organisms in our classroom will help energize students. Seeing a living, breathing butterfly will allow my students to access their love of learning about their local environment and encourage them to discover how reading and writing are connected to the great outdoors.

My Project

Have you ever thought students need more hands on experiences, outdoor? Today is the day to support integrating STEM activities and writing projects by giving students the opportunity to raise their own butterflies! Our class has studied butterflies periodically throughout the year to support our classroom emphasis on a growth mindset. This project gives students the opportunity to visualize their research.

Students will be able to document their observations on a daily basis as native Utah butterflies grow from caterpillars into adulthood through writing and speaking.

Students will be able to track their journey as a group through images, writing, and reading about the life cycle of local butterflies in Utah. Ultimately, releasing the butterflies into the wild as they grow to maturity.

This project will allow students to stay excited all through the school year while also melding their writing skills and applied understanding of the local environment.
