Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Science is an integral part of children's lives. Children are scientists from the moment they are born. They begin exploring first with their eyes and then with their hands, ears, mouths and noses. In school, our job as teachers is to encourage this kind of exploration and facilitate children's learning and making sense of their world. We need to provide children with the materials to investigate and explore their world more in depth.
As a kindergarten teacher in the Bronx, I love teaching science. I love seeing children's eyes light up when they find out something new--and this happens most often when the students are given the freedom and the tools to be "real" scientists. Currently, my classroom lacks many of the scientific tools that will help my students not just meet the science standards, but really process and internalize facts about their world. I want to change that by putting tools in the hands of my students that they can use during our nature walks, in class experiments, and science investigation centers.
The Hands-On Science Supply Center provides students with a variety of tools to facilitate active learning. It will be a great complement to the science curriculum because science will not just be something taught to them, but something they experience daily.
Thank you for considering our proposal and helping Bronx students further develop as real scientists.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
