My students need learning experiences that are authentic and field tested. This high tech Garmin 360 camera will allow me to capture the Arctic for my students, as well as allow them to capture places too.
500+ students experience art every week at RHES. Kindergarten through 6th grade all have art class in which we explore, create, problem-solve and think about our world and all the ways we can share artwork in it.
My students have a constant buzzing curiousity about our wild world and I want to share as much as I can about that world with them through technology, hands-on creating and big ideas that we work on collaboratively.
I want my students to make real-world connections with their learning environment, their community and the bigger world around them. Weaving geographic literacy into the art curriculum is an amazing way to give them global perspectives and thoughtful practices.
My Project
I have been selected for the professional development experience of a lifetime as I will soon embark on an expedition with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions to the Arctic to explore the land of the Ice Bears in Norway and Svalbard. Few people make it to this remote region and I want to capture it for my students so that they can experience what it is like there and explore with me, using the power of virtual reality and 360 degree video and images.
This project will engage all of the students at my school in an experience of a lifetime, through storytelling and visuals.
Even after my expedition and sharing of the visuals, my students will then get hands on use of the technology for further collaborative projects in the art room at many levels and abilities. It will be a wonderful way to integrate steAm & geographic literacy idea into the art curriculum.
