Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Predict! Discover! Explore! Investigate! These are all academic words my students have learned this year. Now we need to give the children a chance to do these things. The children need activities to visually enhance their science and vocabulary development.

My students are 25 very eager five and six year old (Kindergarten).

These children are overcoming challenges every day, as they grow up in a very low income (free lunch) school in a suburb of Los Angeles,California. My students watch a PBS Show called Sid the Science Kid. Sid questions everything and usually does an experiment to solve his questioning. The children need grade level appropriate material (Such a mini-greenhouses)so they can explore and investigate on their own. To help the students learn more about science, I am asking for material where they can work independently and have fun.

My Project

I am requesting creative and fun science materials. We spend a lot of time learning about plants, life cycles, bugs, magnets and more. These life lessons are done through books. Now I want to enhance these lessons with manipulatives and centers. I am asking for science centers and science experiment (mini greenhouses). I am hoping this material will also help the children learn more about the importance of protecting the earth.

This project is important to me because I can not provide my students all the wonderful, hands on materials they need to learn science.

I want my students to have the opportunities to explore with a partner, in a center setting. I want the children to be able to keep a journal of their findings and share with others. Science is crucial in the development of inventors, doctors, chemists, teachers, and so many more important jobs.
