This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our grant proposal aims to empower students’ curiosity and critical thinking by leveraging high-quality mentor texts. Through engaging science topics and hands-on experiences, we intend to cultivate a deeper understanding of the world and environmental responsibility. When students explore the world around them, they become curious and inquisitive question creators. The selected books will not only deepen students’ understanding of various STEM topics but also foster their capacity to generate and address their own inquiries. These mentor texts serve as valuable tools for enhancing students’ communication skills by analyzing word choices and design, ultimately empowering them to become more proficient writers.

Inquisitive minds need high quality texts that drive students' desire to explore the world.

I plan on engaging students through the use of the world around us, exploring different science topics from animal decomposition to the study of machines that have been left on the moon. Each student will engage in research projects and interactive discussions that will create a strong community of learners. We will also be exploring how we impact our own classroom environment by composting food waste and gathering data on how organic materials break down over time. 5th grade students need to understand how the energy process is transferred which will allow students to test soil PH levels of the compost.

Our future depends on having children who question the world around them, supporting the environment, and noticing how they impact the world. Together, we can empower the next generation of critical thinkers, environmental stewards, and curious explorers. Your support will shape a brighter future for us all.
