Exploratory and Functional Toys for Learning

My Project

This project will provide variety to the play materials offered in my classroom. My students are 3-5 years old and are on the autism spectrum, many of them are non verbal. It is important to have materials that are of interest in order to grab their attention. This is the first step to move from dumping and filling bins to real functional play!

Play skills are the foundation to all learning, help me to offer these opportunities to my 3- 5 year olds on the Autism Spectrum.

From these beginning play skills we can expand and grow vocabulary, imitation and interest in peers. Having a variety of materials (toys) to choose from helps create curiosity, build interests and create expanded knowledge. These skills fit together to provide our young students with access to expanding their skills and knowledge in a variety of areas.
