Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Men Love to wonder, and that is the seed of science". - Ralph Waldo Emerson. No place will make a kid wonder more than the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Kids come out of there wanting to conduct their own experiments or make their own projects. This school year is our district Science Fair.

My students are intelligent, highly motivated, and have goals of being scientists and engineers like many of their parents.

Our school is located near the Silicon Valley so math and science is very important to our parents and students. The Science Fair is a big deal at our school. It would be nice to do something science-related that was more fun and engaging then just another project. It would be nice for the students to see how fun science can be.

My Project

Students are encouraged to touch and participate in exhibits. There are over 600 exhibits dealing with all areas of science. There are many grad students there to help engage the students and encourage them to explore and have fun. My students will be required to report back to the classroom a minimum of five exhibits they liked the best and explain why. They will also have to choose one exhibit they did not particularly like and be able to persuade the class why it should be removed. Students would then be able to come up with their own ideas for an exhibit and write a letter to the Exploratorium with their recommendation. This trip would then not only be about science but be used for persuasive writing and for oral reports.

Field trips are a great experience and will encourage more learning than any day in the classroom.

They are what a student remembers years after they have left your class. The social skills that are learned on that day are better than any lesson in school. Transportation is getting more expensive and field trips are getting harder to fund. My class was able to go last year and loved the trip. I would love to be able to go with my class this year.
