I get to teach students at an exciting and awkward age. My students aren't kids anymore, but they aren't really teenagers either. They fall into the amazingly fun group of "middle schoolers."
In my 6th grade science classroom, I have a large variety of wonderful students from all sorts of different backgrounds.
They have faced enormous challenges in life, yet come to school with a smile on their face every day (okay, most days!). My students are the reason that I love teaching!
My Project
My students each have their own laptop to use at school. To best utilize this technology and the many possibilities that come with it (virtual field trips, video streaming, and online read-aloud novels), they need headphones. Many of my students do not have their own headphones or are not able to afford nice ones that don’t wear down and break after a few uses.
A class set of headphones would open up more opportunities for use of their laptops in instruction.
Technology has many possibilities, and my students and myself would love to explore them!
Another piece of this project is density cubes. Density is a difficult concept for students to grasp without experimentation, because it seems abstract at first. Density cubes would allow my students to perform a lab in which they can see differences in density and the affect that has on an object first hand. In the science classroom, we find that students learn best with hands on labs and activities!
