Experimenting & Learning Computer Science with Micro:bits and Inventors Kits
My students need micro:bits paired with inventors kits to provide students with a single-board computer that allows for limitless experimentation and learning potential.
I am the Technology and Innovation teacher for K-6 students. At my elementary school, we are emphasizing STEAM education. As part of our STEAM program, we are teaching students computer science concepts and how to apply them to the real world.
My students have displayed exceptional interest in computer science concepts and coding.
Because of this, we strive to provide our students with the opportunities and tools necessary to challenge and strengthen their skills in these areas. It is our goal to prepare our students to be career and college ready.
My Project
The micro:bits and inventors kits will allow my students to gain hands-on experience with microcontrollers, breadboards, resistors, temperature sensors, accelerometers, and more. Students will use wires to build and complete numerous set-up with these components, proceed to write code, and conduct experiments.
The micro:bit controller is compatible with a number of different code languages, such as JavaScript and C++, which will allow students to gain experience with multiple languages.
The micro:bit will process the code, read the input from the sensors, and translate an output that allows students to see the results of their experimentation.
The micro:bits and inventors kits may be used by beginners to engineers. There is an extremely wide range of possible applications for this tool. This will allow for use by all students in my classroom. This also provides the ability for students to push their limits as the micro:bit and inventors kit contains limitless learning opportunities that will be appropriate for all learning levels.
