Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach at a Title 1 high school in Sparks, Nevada. My biology classroom has a diverse group of learners, including many English-language learners who are new to the country, and the majority of my students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Despite their many challenges and differences, my students are hard-working and curious.

Introducing science concepts through hands-on laboratory activities is both engaging and equitable for my students.

All students will be able to identify the differences in the plants and connect their observations to the relationship between genotype and phenotype in organisms. DNA and genetics can be a mysterious and challenging topic due to both the scale and complexity. Offering students the change to apply concepts with plants, will offer an opportunity for them to connect what cannot be seen to the observable in living organisms.
