Experimental Chemistry

My students need new test tube racks for the Chemistry labs. Our old test tube racks are very old, all burned and with chemical spill stains. They also need paper.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Observing chemical reactions is one of the most valuable experiences chemistry students have.

My students are enrolled in a math, science and Technology Magnet Program in a Title I high school, with a 90% of minorities in the program, 90% of disadvantage social-economic families, and a very successful performance.

A considerable part of our student population come from difference areas in the city, some of them very far from the school. Our program is very rigorous; in many cases students take AP level classes (college level classes taught in High School) as their first and only class on the subject. In these classes (for example, my AP chemistry class), the students enter with the knowledge they received in their middle school and reach a college level in a single year.

My Project

The materials in this project will be used to enhance the experimental activities of our chemistry classes. Test tube racks are the best way for students to produce, observe and experience chemical reactions. On the other side, students need written protocols to follow and lab reports that help them fully understand the process. In our class, a color-coded printed lab protocols and reports helps the students to remain organized.

One of the most important parts of a chemistry class curriculum is the study of chemical reactions.

The students will be able to securely observe them and analyze and interpret their characteristics. What makes the observed process a chemical reaction?
