This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The Kidney Filtration Simulation Kit and appliances will engage students and elicit their response in learning about the concept and content on the human renal system, digestive system, and the role of the kidney and nephron in the removal of toxic substances from the body. Students will have hands-on experience in performing and observing the filtration of different substances (size and weight) from the nephron and nutrient present in the food.
As 'Project Lead The Way' curriculum student, they will showcase their creativity by making posters on what they learned through the simulation of kidney filtration, and connect with healthy kidneys, preventing kidney disease, types of kidney diseases (any 2), diagnosis, and treatments available.
Students will present their posters before the class. My students are future STEM workforce as pharmacists, nurses, therapists, doctors, surgeons, Science teacher, etc.
The school is a Title I and the simulation kit, the electrical gadgets; microwave and small fridge used for experimental materials will engage, help, and support students to better understand and evaluate the topic and promote their interest in the related subject for higher education.
The students will work collaboratively in group of three in five workstations (in lab) with kidney filtration simulation kit. The kit activity will help students develop communication skills, critical thinking skills, social skill, research skill, and time management skill. The experiment will help student reflect and share the habit of eating healthy food and to keep kidney healthy. Students will share with young ones and adults in their family on the importance of kidney, an organ to remove toxic waste from body.
