it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One would think that play is an integral part of a pre-kindergarten classroom, unfortunately for many years there has been a strong push down in academics that has even reached the four-year-old kindergarten level. Fortunately, play is being brought back, and its intrinsic value is showing its merits by building social skills, blossoming children's imagination and becoming a curative measure against the over use of phones and tablets to occupy and entertain children.
Imaginative play and experiential learning go hand in hand as to how a young child processes the world around them.
Included in this project are materials that will help bring my students' inner world of imagination to life by having a playhouse and a boat that can be transformed into a bridge or a store, or a cave where bears live. The scarves and wooden play clips will be used to change tables and chairs into tunnels, castles, and hideaway places. I will create crowns, small dolls and costumes with the felt. These materials will provide opportunities for the children to role play the stories that their imaginations are creating. I envision pirates sailing the high seas, the three Billy Goats Gruff crossing the bridge to greener pastures and other great adventures playing out in the classroom.
The noise cancelling headphones bring about a different type of experience. In order for some children to fully experience the world they need less environmental input or stimuli. The headphones help to mute some of the noises of the classroom that can overwhelm some children, allowing them to be able to more fully participate in our classroom experiences.
These materials will bring endless opportunities of roleplaying to my classroom. Stories will be brought to life as an undefined toy can become anything a child's imagination can create!
