Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our group of kindergarten and preschool children have never been to a zoo. The closest they have come to seeing animals is the pet store at the mall! Please help provide transportation for our students to visit a teaching zoo, where they can learn about animals and see them close-up.
My group of transitional kindergarten students will soon begin an animal study unit.
Our state standards require that my students learn about different types of animals, such as fish, birds, reptiles and mammals, as well as their structures like wings and legs. I can think of no better way for my students to understand these concepts than for them to visit a zoo.
My students attend a high-poverty school, and many of them live below the poverty level themselves. They are a diverse group, culturally, linguistically and developmentally. Some of them are learning English for the first time, and some of them have special needs that require accommodations to the typical school experience. A field trip such as this would be an experience they will long remember.
My Project
To help my students understand that there are different types of animals, and that animals can be identified by their characteristics, I would like to take my class on a trip to America's Teaching Zoo, located on a community college in Southern California.
This zoo is operated by college students. As part of their training, they put on animal shows for visitors. At these animal shows, children are taught about the animals at the zoo, such as what they eat, where they come from, and other interesting information. The children get to see these animals while they are listening to the trainers talk about them. After the show, the children will be taken on a tour of the zoo to see and learn about the many other animals that are there.
I am requesting bus transportation to take the children on this trip. Bus transportation has become very costly in the last year, and is not something that can be covered by today's school budgets.
Your donation will help to provide a bus that a great group of students will use to visit a zoo.
It is with the generosity of donors such as yourself that we can provide these opportunities to today's youth. Please help my class experience the animal kingdom. Thank you!
