This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I serve about 390 students in grades K-4. Ninety-six percent of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. I have had the privilege of knowing many of these students for years. I am teaching children of students I had in my 4th and 5th-grade classroom years ago.
I am tasked with instructing students to type in a word processing program, type assignments, and knowing our school's Behavior Matrix.
I am also teaching students to use a computer in order for them to take their state tests on the computer. My personal goal for my students is to teach them to be good writers.
My Project
My goal is to be a part of the reason our students reach their full potential as good writers. The Interim I and II tests showed poor writing abilities through their open response scores.
I am asking for a modest network printer and ink to make students’ writing come alive on paper.
Students have the right to a hard copy of their work to analyze, correct, modify, and produce so they can see their work through a reader’s eyes. It is difficult to read and proof a writing assignment in a digital format. I think that if students could experience their writing as a real document, it will aid them in taking a hard look at what kind of writing they produce.
I ask that you be a part of this endeavor for our enthusiastic students. These young people deserve our time, attention, and resources. Thank you for your consideration!
