Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are experimenters, explorers and creative beings! My kids range from kindergarten to 4th grade. They possess so much imagination and creativity at this stage in their lives, it is amazing!

I have an estimate of 570 students coming to the art classroom every week, ranging from Kinder through 4th grade.

The majority of our students are low social-economic. The school has a low budget as well, so I am trying my best in getting supplies and resources to keep exploration, creation, and challenges activated in my classroom. With your helping heart, you too will also get to help these students in a variety of art activities, experimentations and creating amazing masterpieces in the art room. They are always eager to experiment, learn about and use a new medium (art tool) to express an emotion or thoughts through their art.

My Project

Our school does not have a kiln or the budget to purchase one at the moment. This project will benefit all the grade levels I teach from Kinder through 4th grade.

Air dry clay is an amazing art medium which helps the students' sensory and cognitive development.

The following are some lessons I will use with Clay.

1. What is clay? (Science behind it)

2. What are the uses for clay

3. Techniques and tools to use with clay

4. Students will use their senses and knowledge to experiment with tools and create their own 3D masterpiece (e.g. food sculpture, pinch pot, bowl, animal sculpture, mask, building).

5. Students will be able to express and converse about their artwork with the proper art element vocabulary.
