Experience a Reading Adventure Through Graphic Novels
My students need graphic novels because the stories move quickly, the plots are exciting and there is a good dose of action along the way, that appeals to reluctant readers.
Nestled in a rural valley surrounded by beautiful views, you will find a school filled with students with big dreams! Among these students is a group of sixth graders that are working hard to improve their reading and explore the world through books.
Our classroom is made up of students with a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, interests and dreams.
Despite some of the challenges they may face outside of school, our students have a strong desire to learn and be successful!
My Project
Everyone knows the importance of establishing a love of reading in a child. Growing up, many of us developed a love of reading through comic books. The illustrations kept our minds moving and the combination of texts and pictures kept us engaged in the plot.
My students need graphic novels like, The Baby-Sitters Club Graphix #1-4 Box Set, Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja, and other novel because the stories move quickly, the plots are exciting and there is a good dose of action along the way, that appeals to reluctant readers.
In the classroom, graphic novels help to bridge the gap with reluctant readers. Graphic novels appeal especially to visual learners. Readers are forced to actively engage with the text as they use both the pictures and words to make inferences. Just like traditional novels, graphic novels have complex plots, characters, and conflicts that readers desire.
The graphic novels that are purchased, will be added to our classroom library for all of our readers to enjoy!
