My students are growing learners who need additional support to spark and ignite their curiosity and love of learning. Some have struggled within a typical classroom all of their educational careers. At my school, our team of teachers hopes to break that cycle by using engaging projects, innovative teaching, instructional technologies, and partnering with businesses to offer more authentic learning experiences. We hope to help our students become the future boost the area needs to open new businesses and bring new ideas to make it the booming beacon it once was.
My students have great potential to be the change our area needs.
However, we need to continue to challenge and enrich their learning environment. By having project-based learning as our main focus to try and re-engage and enrich their learning, we also need to meet their other demands. We need to foster within them to independently seek out challenges and persevere through them. We need to develop within them the ability to become lifelong learners. By offering a variety of opportunities, we can help these students become well-rounded individuals.
My Project
Each year, students look into the library and find something they didn't expect to find. A book they love despite thinking reading is hard and challenging. A series that inspires them to become writers. This project looks to expand the current collection and replace some wandering books. In this project, we have added several book series. One series is based on the Five Nights at Freddy's games which several of our students are high interested in.. We hope that students will see the Fazbear Frights Book series and want to take them out immediately to learn more about the series and sharpen their reading skills.
Other books in this project were chosen to make our collection more inclusive and more representative of today's modern world.
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callendar is a YA novel about being a transgender teen struggling with identity and self-discovery. I hope that this list of books will grow our library to help round our literary collection and broaden our young minds at school.
