This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our elementary library is seeking funding to enhance our collection of children’s picture books in Spanish to better support our bilingual learners. As a school that serves a diverse student population, including many Spanish-speaking families, we recognize the importance of providing high-quality, culturally relevant literature in both English and Spanish. Research shows that access to books in a child’s home language not only strengthens literacy skills but also fosters a sense of identity, confidence, and academic success. By expanding our Spanish picture book selection, we aim to create a more inclusive library that reflects and honors the linguistic and cultural diversity of our students.

Books in Spanish will serve as valuable resources for bilingual and dual-language classrooms, reinforcing language acquisition and comprehension skills.

Additionally, these materials will help bridge the gap for parents and caregivers who wish to read with their children in their native language, promoting family literacy and strengthening the home-school connection.

By funding this initiative, we will ensure that our bilingual learners have equitable access to literature that supports their language development and nurtures their love for storytelling. These books will not only empower students academically but also provide them with the opportunity to see themselves, their families, and their culture represented in the stories they read. Your support will help us create a library that welcomes all students, embraces multilingual learning, and fosters a lifelong appreciation for reading.
