Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first graders come from resilient and multicultural backgrounds. With the diversity in languages and ethnicities comes a wide range of learners in acquiring mastery of social, emotional, and academic proficiency for student success. Our classroom community includes students who are English language learners and students with special needs. We are also part of a community school, which means we organize community resources around student success.
My students come from all walks of life, ready to learn and thrive in an academic setting.
As a community school, we engage with community partnerships and services in order to promote stronger families and student learning. My students come to school eager to learn and are so curious about the world. As their educator, I hope to provide my students with wonderful opportunities to thrive with high-quality materials they deserve.
My Project
All students need digital citizenship skills to thrive in the 21st century. Having Chromebooks will allow them to participate fully in their communities and make smart choices online and in real life. I hope to teach my students how to learn and collaborate safely and responsibly by teaching them internet safety to students as young as first grade. Most young children understand the term "stranger danger" in real life situations, but it's also critical to learn how to handle strangers in virtual environments online, which is something that needs to be taught explicitly.
Having computers in the classroom will allow my students to succeed as digital learners, leaders and citizens of tomorrow!
The Chromebooks will allow me to also help my students by differentiating learning using district approved programs like GetEpic, BrainpopJr, and Tumblebooks, where they are excited to learn and be more engaged in the classroom. All of my students also do not use Chromebooks at home and cannot afford to purchase one. I hope to give them the opportunity to gain life skills like typing and writing on a keyboard to help prepare them in their careers for the future.
