Hello. I am a second grade teacher from Compton who would like twenty thesauruses for my students to use. We currently share one thesaurus that isn't in the best condition. I teach in a school considered low-income and all the students receive free lunch. Therefore, materials are sometimes difficult to access or find. Nevertheless the students need to know how to use a thesaurus. I want to teach them the how to become better writers by using expression and voice in their writing. Each student using their own thesaurus could teach students how to develop their writing to better reflect what they want to say, especially because revision and editing are a major component to our writing workshop. I want the students to reread their work and enhance their writing to create accurate descriptions. In second grade we learn synonyms and I can already envision games and activities to create, if every student had a thesaurus to use. For instance, taking a word like "nice" or "good," that appears constantly in their writing. We could look the word up and create personal lists of other words to choose from. Our class would have access to these daily during our writing time. Your donation would make a difference in our class and would help these second graders to expand their vocabularies.
