Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The excitement of "Fun Friday" isn't just once a week, it's every day. This year my students requested more STEAM such as science and art experiments, as well as computer activities. Many of our new resources are used on a daily basis during free-choice time. Several students are learning excellent financial skills by purchasing items using their earned points from positive behavior.

Our students come to school with many concerns outside of their control.

In our classroom, we utilize teamwork and social skills to the fullest potential. Our school is a small school making a big difference for students who have been placed in our building for various personal or private reasons. Many of them do not have "typical" experiences prior to entering the school system. Here, they receive additional resources and opportunities such as smaller class sizes, as well as strategies for social and emotional learning in addition to academic skills.

My Project

This is a very different project for our class. Items for this project will be distributed to students in various grade levels (K-4th) so that they may extend their learning in areas that we have started to study during the school year. In the fall of 2019, we focused on space and this Dr. Seuss book will help them review the learned information in a fun, familiar way.

Building items with STEM materials and making machines that move is one of their favorite tasks.

A few of my students are ready for a next-level challenge and the robot building kits will be a perfect step up from the Lego kits that we started in our classroom this past winter. The students who need to practice their cutting skills enjoy the colorful pages that are included in the sets of cutting practice pages within this project. The dice will be used for probability games via Google Classroom. Many students had dice at one point with various family games, but they are not always easily found so these will supplement their gamily game nights and be tools for math assignments.
