My Students
My students come from a rural farming community in South Central Oklahoma. Several of our students have been dealing with the effects of Covid within their families. Some parents have been ill and not able to work, some have lost their jobs or have reduced hours and pay, and several students have been isolated or quarantined and forced to learn from home.
Students are struggling to keep up with work during virtual learning.
Some students do not have the help they need at home.
My Project
I have been able to introduce some new skills in our cooking labs as well as in our clothing construction curriculum. We would love to be able to expand these skills by having a small GE ice maker in the classroom that will help during the labs that require ice. Our current refrigerators do not have ice machines and we must walk to the other end of the building when certain cooking labs require ice.
We have also introduced the technique of crocheting thanks to a fellow school employee and I would love to have more crochet hooks kits, yarn and a guide book to continue this skill in all my classes.
I've noticed that the with the hands-on lab/projects like cooking and crocheting, it really helps with stress for several students.
We would also love to be restocked on some of the cleaning supplies like disinfecting wipes, Kleenex, and spray cleaner for the kitchen and tables and Chromebooks that is necessary to keep everyone healthy and in school!
