My students need access to Chromebooks, flash drives and headphones, to learn how to use the Internet as a resource in preparation for higher education.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with awesome, smart, motivated middle school students in the South Bronx. These students are in a hearing program and use American Sign Language (ASL) and speech to communicate.
My students are motivated to learn and enjoy using technology.
I was surprised to learn that a majority of them do not have access to a computer at home. They need additional support in reading comprehension and grammar in order to excel. It can be hard with a hearing impairment, as grammar and comprehension is often affected by the sounds and words that cannot be heard.
I am determined to make their school year rich in technology and resources, but need your help!
They need Chromebooks to open their eyes to resources that can be found using a computer, to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar. Headphones will prevent background noise which can disrupt learning.
Teaching these students how to use a computer as a research tool will help them succeed moving forward into high school, college and then, a career. It's a technology-driven world so please help by giving them access to it.
My Project
Chromebooks will be used to access credible, online research tools. Computers will also be used to discuss current events using credible news sources. Reading comprehension and grammar will be targeted during these activities in an interactive way. Vocabulary specific to academics (math, science, ELA) will be targeted. Headphones will be used for hearing impaired students affected by background noise. Students will be able to print their work for review and homework for carryover, using the donated printer. Students will be able to work more independently on the computer, in preparation for high school and eventually, independent living and higher education.
