Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are currently facing the unforeseen challenge of learning and going to school during a pandemic. Despite seeing little progress on finding a cure/ vaccine for COVID-19, or having a set date on when they will return to school, my students have been working tirelessly to have a "normal" school experience. Some of them working harder than others, because they have to care for their siblings while their parents are working. Other's work late at night to submit assignments, because it is the only time they could focus and complete school work.
Every day Monday - Friday, they join my Zoom class and greet me with their eager eyes ready to start the day.
Each of them utilizing the Zoom chat box to wish each other a "Good Morning", "How are you doing?" or "Happy Birthday" for those who happen to have a birthday during this pandemic. Each day, they are all looking for normalcy wherever they can find it.
My Project
These books will be used in our virtual classroom on a daily basis. We will read together or in small groups during our virtual meeting. These books will make a difference for my students who are still struggling to utilize computer technology. It will also support Special Education and Language Learners by giving them the opportunity to highlight and annotate the books with their ideas and questions.
These books will provide my students with the normalcy they crave of reading a book at home or in the virtual classroom.
These books will provide a form of equity and access to learning that has been taken away due to the pandemic.
