My students need materials to help increase their vocabulary, reading skills, and sentence structure.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a Title 1 school, which means majority of our population is poor. Majority of our students read below their grade level and most of our students cannot speak English.
My students attend a primary school, which means it is just preschool- 1st grade.
They are so happy to be in school. They come in and leave with big smiles on their faces. They love their teachers and they love to learn. By helping improve their reading ability now, they will not continue to fall behind. Helping them catch up now, might actually improve their chances of graduating High School.
My Project
Each item in my cart will help students improve their sentence structure and reading ability. The magnetic letters and dry erase boards will allow them to create sentences in a fun way. Easy reader books will help with their reading ability. Magnifier glasses will be used to look at newspapers to find specific words. Sentences will be written on strips of paper and cut up for the students to form the sentence on their own, then putting them into envelopes.
This project is so important because without knowing how to read, these students cannot excel in any subject.
Every subject you need to know how to read in order to know the directions, what is to be expected, and what the questions are asking. By helping them now, it will stop them from continually falling behind. My job as a Guidance Counselor is to close the gap between the students who read on grade level and the students who read below. This project would help enormously with that.
